This is going to give you a little bit of information about me as well as describing my makeup history! Okay let’s start from the basics, my name is Shelby and I am 21 years old. I am currently living in England but I am originally from the United States. I grew up in a very small country town in Illinois and when I was 16 I met my boyfriend who is from England. When I finished High School I moved to the United Kingdom to do my University studies, and I have been here for 3 years now.
When I was young I was always a huge tomboy. I absolutely hated the colour pink and would never wear any girly clothes but instead wearing track bottoms (sweatpants) and huge oversized hoodies (sweatshirts). Many of these hoodies were hand-me-downs from my cousins, but I didn't mind. Now this wasn't really that uncommon as most of the kids in my school wore the same apart from a few girls that actually dressed up. This phase lasted for a very long time until around mid way through High School.
|I believe this was when I was 16. As you can see I loved my hoodies.|
I actually didn't wear makeup much throughout my High School experience and only really started getting into it around Senior Year when I was around 16-17 years old. I remember I used to go to Claires and would buy the bright eyeshadow palettes with pinks and greens for a couple dollars each. I would just use one colour across the lid and put on some eyeliner and mascara and that was it. I think this contributes to why I love wearing bright colours in the day time which many people do not consider ‘daily’ wear. I also used to steal my mom’s makeup when she was asleep and would wear her foundation which was obviously too dark and always wore a bright pink/red lipstick. Obviously a lot has changed from then but it’s pretty funny looking back. As you can see below this is a picture of me probably between 2007-2009 I'm not quite sure, but I'm very sorry for the quality but this is the only picture I could find showing this. Knowing me I probably ended up deleting the rest out as it's quite embarrassing.

I am by no means a professional and learned most of what I know from YouTube tutorials and beauty blogs. I remember the first YouTube makeup tutorial I watched was Kandee Johnson’s Halloween tutorial for Tinkerbell, who I was obsessed with at the time. My boyfriend actually found the video and showed me the tutorial and I didn't even know that tutorials like this existed and once I found them I couldn't stop watching. One of the first makeup items I bought for myself was the Coastal Scents 88 eyeshadow palette which really changed my view on using 1 colour over my whole lid but to use a few colours and really give the eyeshadow look a dimension and after a lot of practice it ended up looking good.
Since then I have grown my makeup collection, which isn’t huge but I definitely have a lot more variety than I used to. I have learned how you can really change your appearance by using makeup and what power it really has. When I first started out I never knew about highlighting and contouring, using multiple eyeshadows to create one look, or even how to properly put on eyeliner and by watching YouTube videos it gave me more confidence in myself and I felt really good.
