Coastal Scents 88 Palette - Metal Mania - Swatches / Review

I currently own 4 of the Coastal Scents 88 eyeshadow palettes and I love them! All of these eyshadow palettes cost around $20 but you can usually find them for cheaper depending on the website you buy them from. Each palette contains 88 eyeshadows around the size of a dime each. Now you may not think this is a lot of product but I have used these palettes quite frequently and have only run low on a few of the colours.

Overall amongst all of the palettes the pigmentation is pretty good apart from a few shades here and there that don't have the greatest colour pay off. I think though that with the amount of eyeshadows you get that are pigmented these palettes are definitely worth the price. I find that the Metal Mania palette probably has the best pigmention out of all of the Coastal Scents 88 eyeshadow palettes I have owned. Apart from the few shimmery light shades the dark colours really do pop and give a great metallic almost metal looking finish which looks gorgeous on the swatches and on the eyelid. Many of these shades are actually a glittery/shimmery/metallic finish therefore there are very few matte shades in this palette which some of you may not like. This palette is obviously geared toward more dramatic looks hence the name Metal Mania but I think this is a great palette for anyone who wants to experiment with more dramatic looks!

I would say that these palettes are probably more targeted towards people experimenting with new colours that don't want to spend a lot of money trialling out different shades or beginners that are new to makeup and don't have that big of a collection. Now lets look at the swatches! Each swatch is going down each column in the palette going from the left to the right.

Tips for wearing bold black eyeliner - Makeup of the Day

One of my favourite makeup looks recently is having a very natural eye with bold black eyeliner which may be obvious from my recent Makeup of the Day posts I have been doing. Now although I really love the look of bold eyeliner it is very easy to hae it become too harsh where you end up looking like a raccoon. So I have decided to give you a few of my tips and tricks for creating a wearable bold eyeliner look!

What products are my favourite for creating a bold eyeliner?

I recently bought my Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Eyeliner which I cannot get enough of! It is by far one of my favourite makeup products of all time and you can see my full in depth review of the Gel Eyeliner here. I also like using a black eyeshadow to soften the edges and I have been using my Sleek eyeshadow palette in Original/Storm which both contain a matte black shade, although any black eyeshadow will do.

Steps to create a bold eyeliner..

First I take my Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Eyeliner and create a thick line across my upper lashes. I personally like to keep this line bigger at the outer edges of my eye and go thinner as I go into the inner corner. Once this line has been created you then take a matte black eyeshadow on a small precision brush (could be a rounded top brush or a slanted eyeliner brush etc) and smudge this along the top of the line you created. This will not only blend out the outer edges and give it a more smokey feel but it will also help straighten the line and get rid of any mistakes you had before.

Next I usually take that same brush and apply the remaining colour on the brush to my lower lashline. This line you really want to smoke out and have it gradually fade into your skin colour. Make sure you spend a great deal of time on this as it will look very intense and harsh if the line is not blended enough. This line on the bottom can be as thick as you would like it to be but I personally like it almost bigger than the top line.
To finish off the eyeliner either use a gel or pencil eyeliner in your waterline and make sure all of the ‘flesh’ colours of your eye are covered and no spots are showing between the waterline colour and the colour that is blended on your lower lashline. And now you should have a very smokey bold eyeliner.

Tips for making a bold eyeliner wearable..

Give some Dimension! After your eyeliner has been completed it may still look very flat without any dimension so to avoid this you can add a darker eyeshadow colour into your crease. This will give your eye more dimension and give you a 3d look which I find very flattering on the eye. You can use any colour you would like for this step but in my pictures I used a dark cranberry and matte medium brown shade in my crease. Make sure that you blend this colour out very seamlessly.

Highlight the Inner Corners! Highlighting the inner corners of your eyes really opens up your eyes and makes you wide awake. I like doing this step with any makeup look but I find that when you pair this with a bold eyeliner it really does lighten the look a little and makes it look less harsh.

Fill in them brows! This can be a personal preference but I find that when you do a dark eye look you should have your brows shaped and filled in so it balances everything out. Although I like to do this you can obviously choose not to do this step if you normally do not fill in your brows

Use a bold lip shade! I absolutely love pairing a bold lip colour with an intense eyeliner look and feel it pulls the whole look together. Imagine wearing a really intense eye look and pairing it with a nude lip, it just feels unbalanced on the face. So my favourites is to use a red, berry, purple or some type of bold lip shade to compliment the look!
Keep minimal on the cheeks! If you do intend on doing a intense eyeliner and bold lip I would recommend keeping the cheeks very minimal as you don’t want to look like a clown yikes! I love wearing a very light pink shade or even a coral shade that gives you a little colour without being a big pop of colour. I think that bronzing would also look very pretty with bold eyeliner so if you love a little bit of contour go for it!

Maybelline New York Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H - Review / Swatches

On my last Boots haul I picked up a few things on their 3 for 2 event running across all cosmetics, one of these being the Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in Black. The Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliners come in a few different colours including Black, Violet, Black Gold and Brown. The gel eyeliner costs around £8 at your local drugstore but can usually be found on a deal so you get it a little cheaper. The box comes with a pot of the gel eyeliner along with a brush specifically for use with the gel eyeliner.

Previous experiences with eyeliners..

Before I get into the review I want to give you a little background information about what liners I have used previously. I most commonly used pencil eyeliners in the past, my favourites being MUA Colour Intense Eyeliners and the Maybelline ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliners. I also attempted using liquid eyeliner from the MUA brand in both the normal and waterproof formulas. Although I consider eyeliner an essential when wearing eyeshadow, I have never been overly attached to any one eyeliner method or even the type of eyeliner whether it be liquid or pencil. I always find it very difficult to do my eyeliner without bumps and streaks and never found my ‘holy grail’ eyeliner before.

What is a gel eyeliner and why use one?

A gel eyeliner basically comes in a little pot which you would then dip your brush into the product and sweep it across your eye. The consistency of the eyeliner is almost like a Jello/jelly consistency where the product is a solid but when you get some product on your brush the brush instantly pushes through the product with ease. Many people find that gel eyeliner is in fact the easiest to use as you have the most control as you are using a brush and can go at your own pace. The product is usually very opaque so it does not contain streaks and only requires one coat to be very black.

What do I think of the Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner?

First off I love that this product comes with a brush to use with the product. The brush is almost like a very tiny eyeshadow brush that is rounded at the tip and very short. The bristles are very dense which makes it very easy to press colour onto the lash line or swipe it across the eye. I find that the brush is also thin enough that you can easily create winged eyeliner which I have never really been able to do very easily.

The actual eyeliner itself is very creamy and easily grabs product when you press your brush into it. The colour payoff is incredible and comes off as being extremely black without any fading or looking ‘grey’. The pigmentation is amazing and honestly only requires one swipe and you are done without needing to touch up or go over the line you created again!

The best thing about this product though is it lasts all day without smudging too badly even when it is not set with powder (I typically do not set my gel eyeliner with any powder). I honestly wear this eyeliner maybe 13+ hours in a day and it is still looking perfect on my eyes with the exception of my outer corner of my eye which usually smudges just a tiny bit. I have watery eyes especially this time of year because of my allergies so I do not find this too bad considering the eyeliner overall still looks perfect! I also use this in my waterline which may be controversial to some of you but it stays on my waterline pretty good even after 12 hours of wear. Of course around the inner and outer edges it will smear a little but overall you can still see the black on the waterline.

1 coat of Maybelline Gel Eyeliner on lash line and waterline
1 coat of Maybelline Gel Eyeliner on lash line and waterline
Overall is this a product worth trying?

Overall I think that this eyeliner is by far the best eyeliner I have ever sued and I now consider it my ‘holy grail eyeliner’. I actually don’t think I could ever go back to my pencil or liquid eyeliners again as I find this so easy to work with and almost every time I come out with a perfect line without bumps and a spot on wing! I definitely think all of you should give this a try because it may indeed change your makeup experience just like it has mine! If you do try this product let me know what you thought of it down in the comments below!

My ‘Lucky’ Makeup Look of the Day! St. Patricks Day

Happy Saint Patrick's day everyone, I hope you all are having a very lucky day! For Saint Patricks Day I decided to incorporate some green into my everyday makeup look. Instead of doing a full on green eyeshadow look tutorial, I decided to do something that is a little more wearable and gives a hint of green so it is more suited for everyday wear. I went with a natural eye with very little eyeshadow (only a crease shade to be exact) with thick eyeliner on the top. For under my lashline I added a bright green shade and towards the inner corners and for my inner highlight I used a gold shade! I kept my cheeks very soft and went with a bright red lip! You could obviously use any red lip to go with this eyeshadow look but I went with red because on the colour wheel red is across from green which means they complement each other. This is more than likely the reason that Christmas has red and green paired together!

My Top 5 Makeup Holy Grails / Products I could not live without!

I love looking at what beauty bloggers most top favourite makeup essentials are. The products that they buy over and over repeatedly and what they consider to be their all-time favourite Holy Grail products that they will buy for years to come. I have a few of these products that I cannot live without. If my makeup was ever stolen, these would be my top 5 products that I would repurchase first… well let’s be honest, immediately as I cannot live without them. Many of these products I use on an everyday basis so they definitely get their use!

Top Row: Rimmel Kate Lipstick in 101, True Match Foundation - N1 Ivory, Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
Bottom Row: MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter, Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
The first product that has been my all time most favourite makeup product ever is my L’Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation in N1 ivory. The foundation has a light to medium coverage which I find great as it evens out my skin tone, and I can use concealer to cover up any blemishes that are still left over. I hate the feeling of a thick cakey foundation so a light to medium coverage is perfect for me. This foundation is so light that I don’t actually feel it on my skin throughout the day and it feels just like normal skin. The True Match foundations come in a bunch of different shades with pink and yellow undertones so you should easily be able to find a colour that suits you! I am forever loyal to this foundation and I do not actually own any other brands of foundation. About a year back I actually got a great deal from Boots using a 3 for 2 event as well as an online coupon code and ended up getting around £100 of this foundation for like £50 so I bought a bunch and have loads of them in stock. I cannot even explain how in love I am with this foundation and I really would recommend it to anyone!

My collection of L'Oreal True Match Foundations :D! Hoarder anyone?
The next product is my Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer. This is actually my first bottle of this concealer but it is the only concealer I use. I use this product almost every day and I find that it works great under the eyes as well as on blemishes and spots. The coverage is amazing and it lasts a long time throughout the day before needing to touch up.

One of my favourite parts of makeup is highlighting my skin, so I really love using the MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter. The product costs £3 at Superdrug and you can even catch these on a 3 for 2 event so it works out to be even cheaper. The highlighter is very shimmery and gives a really nice glow to the cheeks without looking like a disco ball. I find that it does look natural but you can somewhat tell you have highlighter on but I love the way it looks.

The next two products I bought recently but I have been wearing them every single day and they are for sure a staple product in my makeup collection. I have never had a Holy Grail eyeliner and honestly I get a little disappointed by the ones that I have tried in the past. I had always used pencil liners which I don’t find last that long and liquid eyeliner was a little too difficult to apply so I decided to pick up the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner and I fell in love! This eyeliner even comes with a brush and I find that the brush is very thin and it is so easy to create a thick or even a thin line across your lid. The eyeliner never comes out bumpy but looks perfect every time as you have amazing control over the product. The lasting power in incredible and I have never seen an eyeliner stay put for as long as this one did. I find that even after 12-13 hours of wear the eyeliner stays put and still looks perfect without smudging, cannot rave enough about this product!

I am not a huge lip person but slowly I have been branching out trying new lip glosses and lipsticks. I bought the Kate Rimmel lipsticks in 101 which is in the red tube. I love the colour of this lipstick as it is an everyday nude pink shade that is completely matte on the lips. I do not find this lipstick to be drying in the slightest and I don’t find that it becomes uncomfortable after hours of wear. The product does stay on your lips for a good amount of time before needing to apply. I also love that you can either wear this matte or if you want some shimmer you can add a nice lip gloss over the top to give it a shine.

I hope you all enjoyed hearing about my top five favourite makeup products that are in my collection. I honestly will buy these makeup products again and again when I run out of the ones I currently have. I would love to hear what your 5 favourite makeup products are and which ones couldn't you live without so let me know in the comments below.

How to curl your hair using a conical wand! Tresseme Conical Wand - Hair of the Day

Some of you may know that I don’t really do much to my hair very often and keep it very natural on an everyday basis. When I do occasionally curl my hair I love the end product but it takes so long considering I have such long hair. Yesterday I actually got my hair cut and ended up cutting around 4 inches off the bottom and also got some longer layers put in. Since my hair was a tiny bit shorter I decided to curl my hair today using my Tresemme Conical Wand which I bought from Tesco about a year or two ago.

This curling iron differs from the classic curling iron as it does not have the clamp on the barrel which is normally used to hold the hair while you roll the barrel around your hair. As this iron does not contain a clamp you do have to curl your hair in a different way compared to the normal curling irons.

When using a conical wand you will always want to hold the iron behind your head. So for example if you were doing the left side of hair first, you would hold your right arm behind your head holding the iron so it is facing the left portion of your hair and do the opposite when doing the right side. I always notice that I tend to actually rest my arm holding the curling iron on my head as I wrap the piece of hair around it so that it doesn’t move around too much.

When using a conical wand you will want to take a “1 thickness of hair and slowly and carefully wrap this around the barrel. Depending on what curl you are wanting you can do this many different ways. To get a ringlet type of curl you want to try and keep the piece of hair straight on the barrel so that it doesn’t spin, so each time you wrap it around you will need to twist the hair in order to keep it flat against the barrel without spinning the hair. To get a more natural type of curl you can just wrap the piece of hair around the barrel without trying to make the piece of hair flat. This will spin the piece of hair each time you curl it around the wand. These are a little hard to explain but with a little practice you will see what I mean. Today I decided to go with the natural style waves so I just twisted my hair around the barrel letting it spin my hair as I wrapped it.

Curling your hair is all about choices and finding which style best suits you so have fun experimenting with it! You can also curl all of the pieces away from your face which I find to be very flattering, or you can alternate with each curl. This means that you would curl the first piece by your head away from your face, and then do the next piece so it curls towards your face and repeat. This will give you more volume and insure that all of the curls do not stick together and form one massive curl.

Once you have wrapped your hair around the barrel you want to keep holding it for a few seconds. How many seconds really depends on the type of hair you have. If you have easy to curl hair or very thin hair I would recommend only holding it for 6-8 seconds, and if you have harder to curl hair leave it for 10-12 seconds. I personally use around 12 seconds for each piece of hair.

Once you have held the piece of hair the desired time then you will slowly let the piece of hair slide down the conical wand. If you would like your curls to really stay or you have really hard to curl hair I would suggest letting the hair fall into your hand and holding it for just a few seconds so it can cool down a little before you let it fully down.

Then you want to do this throughout your entire head and then your finished! Curling my hair using this conical wand took around 40 minutes, but keep in mind that I was taking pictures throughout the process and I do have very long hair. Once I was finished I took some Macadamia Healing Oil and sprayed a little in my hands and ran my fingers through the ends of my hair just to give a little shine. Now you can either leave the curls how they look now, or you can take a brush/wide tooth comb and slowly and gently brush through the lengths of your hair. This will separate the curls just a little and create more volume. Today I decided to keep it simple and not brush through my hair but leave it natural.

Some Helpful Tips:

1. Try to section off pieces of your hari to make it easier choosing sectionst o curl. I find that once I curl my sections and put it with the others they either fall in my face or get in the way so I keep a big claw clip to clip them out of the way while I work with the rest of my hair

2. If your hair is not curling properly or as tightly as you would like it to be, try using smaller sections. The smaller the section the tighter the curl.

3. Hold the curl in your hand after you have taken it off the conical wand. This will not only help the curl stay longer as you give it time to cool but will give you a more defined curl.

4. If you are curling your own hair, make sure to ask someone else if they can see any pieces you have missed or use a mirror to check the back. If you have very long hair like me it is very noticeable when a piece hasn’t been curled properly.

5. Practice, Practice, Practice! If you feel you aren’t getting the curl you would like or it is not going smoothly just keep practicing piece after price. You will eventually get the hang of it and it will turn out amazing when you do!

Eyes Lips Face (ELF) All Over Cover Sticks - Review + Swatches

I love affordable makeup as much as anyone else and it is great when you can find products that actually work well. Elf is one of my favourite affordable brands and I have tried a lot of their products. Many Elf products are very hit and miss where you will either love the product or completely hate it, which I have had experiences with both. The product retails for $1 in the US or £1.50 in the UK and can be purchased on the ELF website or in a US drugstore such as Target.

Today I will be reviewing the ELF All Over Cover Stick’s which I have actually owned 3 different shades. The all over cover sticks come in two variety’s, in lips/cheek type colours range with pink shades and it also comes in concealer shades. I have owned both the lips and cheek type colours as well as my concealer colour and I have to say that I am not too pleased with this product. For this review I will be showing the shade Lilac Petal as this is the only one I can find. I may have even thrown out the other two that I owned because I was not a big fan of this product.

The first thing I notice when I open the product is the strong scent it has. It almost smells like oranges or some type of fruit and the scent is extremely strong.  I do like this scent, however for a face product I do not really fancy having scented products as they tend to irritate or break out my skin. This is just my experience with this product but it did in fact break out my skin, but this is obviously just my personal experience so this may not happen with you.

The product is very pigmented and does show up when you use it on your cheeks and lips. I however do not really like the coverage the concealer gives over blemishes and other imperfections on the skin. The concealer easily wears off and does not last very long at all.  The cheek/lip products do wear pretty decently, but last especially long if you apply a powder blush over the top.  These blushes do give a dewy glow to the skin so a highlighter would not be necessary.

The packaging of these products doesn't feel the greatest. The lid comes off fairly easy so I would not trust something like this in the bottom of my purse in case it got over everything.  The product twists up which is a great feature for this type of product but it is very tough to actually twist the container. The product also does not go down very far when the product is twisted to the bottom like how a lipstick would so again this is not a great item to have in your purse or when you are travelling.

Overall I am not the biggest fan of these All Over Cover Sticks from ELF, but although it did not work out for me it could indeed work out for you. Not only did they break out my skin but I do not find that the lasting power is that great either, especially from the concealer. The product has great pigmentation and will show up on your cheeks/lips but if you set it with a powder it will have a much longer lasting time. If this product did not break out my skin I think I would actually enjoy the product so it is all just personal preference.  But honestly I think this is one of those products that you would need to try out for yourself and see how the product works for you.

Vivo Cosmetics - Matte Eyeshadow in Purple Passion

At my local Tesco they sell the Vivo cosmetics brand. The Vivo cosmetics brand is very affordable with their products ranging from £1-8 depending on the product. I have actually never heard of this brand until I stumbled upon it in my local Tesco. As I was looking through the makeup clearance section I noticed that they were selling the Vivo single eyeshadows for around £0.30 each so I decided to pick up the Matte Eyeshadow in Purple Passion (shade 3) which originally retails for £1.50. I assumed that this brand would be similar to the Makeup Academy or Elf brands with low prices but contain hidden gems, but I was wrong.

Now many of you may know that I love wearing purple eyeshadows and in the tin this colour looks very vibrant and straight up my alley. As you can tell from the name the eyeshadow is a Matte formula which the product does not contain any shimmer or glitter. I have had some bad luck with matte eyeshadows in the past so I wasn't expecting that much.

This eyeshadow lacks pigmentation dramatically. The eyeshadow is very powdery so when you swatch it there is just no colour pay off at all. The colour is faintly visible and looks very splotchy and not smooth. I also tried to gently rub the eyeshadow and instantly the entire colour disappeared and it looked like I had applied nothing. I cannot imagine what this would do on your eyes, but I am sure it would smudge or crease in a matter of minutes. I also tried to see if a eyeshadow base would help the eyeshadow appear more vibrant so I used Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk for a base. The colour did show up better, however I would not consider this good pigmentation and is just still lacking the colour pay off you would expect from an eyeshadow.

Although the product is not great, the packaging is very nice and I feel like this would stand up very well if you threw it in your handbag. The lid is attached very secure and it feels very sturdy when you open the packaging. The clasp could be a little stronger but I do not find this is a big issue.

I guess you could deem this down to it is not great because it only costs £1.50 but I have found many makeup products that I have fell in love with from brands like Makeup Academy and ELF that are around the same price point but much better quality. If you are looking for cheaper makeup alternatives they both are great brands to choose from and I would definitely recommend them. I would not suggest any of you try the Matte Eyeshadows from the Vivo cosmetics range but instead save your money for either Makeup Academy or ELF instead.

I am also curious if any of you have tried any products from Vivo cosmetics and what did you think of them? Let me know in the comments below.

Makeup Haul - Boots 3 for 2: Maybelline, Rimmel!

So today I decided to go to Primark and buy my boyfriend some t-shirts when I noticed a Boots sign promoting the 3 for 2 deal across skincare makeup and much more. I couldn't pass this up and had to take advantage of such a good deal! I ended up coming out with 6 beauty items and it come to around £25 which I don’t find too bad. I will be showing you all of the makeup products I purchased today and will review each product separately throughout the next few weeks once I try them out. If you have ever used any of these products I would love to know what you think of them!

The first thing I picked up was the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. I have seen quite a few reviews of this gel eyeliner and it seems like the majority of people do indeed like it so I decided to give it a try. I have only ever used the ELF gel eyeliners before and was not that impressed so I decided to give gel eyeliner another try and go with the Maybelline brand. I purchased the shade 01 Intense Black so it would be a colour I could wear everyday.

The next thing I bought was the Maybelline Colour Sensational Shine Gloss. I have reviewed a different Maybelline Lipgloss which you can find here where I mentioned I don’t typically like lip glosses because I find that they are sticky. This brand is not sticky in the slightest and is the only one that I have found that I enjoy. I picked up the shade Pink Shock which is a bright pink shade which I think I will get a lot of wear out of!

I have also been hearing a lot about the Maybelline Falsies Volum’ Express Mascara. I myself like a wearable foundation that doesn't get clumpy so I decided to go for this one. IT is in the Flared version in the colour Black. I haven’t actually tried many Maybelline mascaras so I will let you know how I get on with this.

Many of you know that I love the Maybelline Colour Tattoo’s so I decided to pick up the shade in Everlasting Navy. This shade is a dark blue shade which I think is gorgeous. I myself like bold dramatic eyeshadow looks so using this under eyeshadows will really make them pop! I can’t wait to use this.

The final two things I bought were the Kate lipsticks by Rimmel. One of them is in the red packaging and one is in the black. I am actually not sure the difference but I really liked both of the shades I picked up. One is a wearable everyday pink that isn't to bright in the shade 101, and the other is a brighter pink that I think is still wearable and it is in the shade 16. I have never tried the Kate lipsticks before so I can’t wait to give them a try especially since they are meant to be Long Lasting.

That was all of the things I picked up from my local Boots. Boots does have the 3 for 2 sale amongst all cosmetics/eyelashes/skincare and much more so head down to your local boots and check it out! I did wan’t some more Sleek palettes and blushes but my local Boot’s does not carry the Sleek brand so I will have to wait until Superdrug also has the deal. If you have tried any of these products let me know what you think of them!
